Laura Whitmore investigates shocking subject in new ITV documentary series

LAURA WHITMORE’s unlikely transformation from Love Island host to hard-hitting documentary maker is under way.

The Irish presenter will front three episodes as part of a series on new streaming platform ITVXin which she has excitedly crowed about returning to her “journalism roots”.

Laura says: “One of the topics I’ve been looking at as part of the new series is incels. I didn’t know a lot about this community other than some high-profile cases in the media.

“By meeting incels and trying to understand the ideology, I’ve been both fascinated and at times scared and shocked.”

Laura quit Love Island in August after presenting three series following the death of the ITV2 show’s original host, Caroline Flack.

She admitted there were “elements of the show I’ve found very difficult” when announcing her departure, hinting at potential creative differences.

Perhaps the content in Laura Whitmore Investigates will be more valuable — and shedding insight into incels will certainly tick that box.
The rise of the incel movement has been blamed for a number of well-documented hate crimes.

In 2021, 22-year-old Jake Davison killed himself after shooting dead five people, including his mother, in his home city of Plymouth, having subscribed to incel-related content online.

Laura will probe what should be done to stem the movement.

Slightly different fare, then, to asking: “What’s your type on paper?”
